PlayStation

PlayStation

Turns out some people like to call it the PSX rather than the PS1 and like yeah that's way better and a callback to what it was originally gonna be called but like it's not the Xth PlayStation. Other than that this system is pretty cool. I really don't like how most 3D games are designed with the d-pad since not every controller has the two sticks but then when a game says they have full analog support it's a lie because the movement is still 8 ways like a d-pad and it pisses me off and it wouldn't be so frustrating if the d-pad is stiff as hell like I use it for Pac-Man World for like 5 seconds and my thumb is already sore fucking stupid console. But yeah okay tangent aside there are some dope games and some really unique games on the system so I can't really hate it.

Crash Bandicoot: Warped

Crash Bandicoot: Warped

Yeah it's the third main Crash game, figured I'd get this since it's cheap and the iconic PlayStation mascot at the time. Played the game and thought it was okay. I suppose that going for completion would've given me a more positive view of this game but I'm not going to look for a specific gem in a random level to unlock access to the rest of the crates in the rest of the levels that require them that just sounds stupid. I don't want to waste time looking for stuff I just want to do it. Though I must say I did get a Platinum Relic in one of the Egyptian stages with the oil that you can slide on for a huge boost in speed and let me tell you that felt good.

Metal Gear Solid

Metal Gear Solid

OKAY so story time I went to my local thrift store to see if I could find a movie for Halloween since we'd have a friend over and sure why not maybe I'll find something fun to watch. I was browsing all the dvds since you never know what you'll find and the my eyes catch a case whose spine says "Metal Gear Solid" and I immediately went "holy shit". Now a desire within me was that I wanted to find a PS1 game at a thrift store since I have a PS1 and it would be cool, normally I thought it wouldn't be a very prestigious game like some baseball game or slots and even if it was I'd be satisfied. AND THE FIRST ONE I FIND IS METAL GEAR FUCKING SOLID, ONE OF THE MOST BELOVED PS1 GAMES IN EXISTENCE. It only had disc 2 but I didn't care I found half of Metal Gear Solid at my local thrift store. But yeah since I don't have disc 1 yet I cannot actually play the main game so I gotta get disc 1 sometime, which is still a net gain since I'll be saving $15 on a $30 game so I don't mind. I'll update this later if and when I do buy disc 1 and play the game for realsies.

Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness

Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness

At the time of me writing this, I have yet to get anywhere close to beating Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness. It's not because I don't like the game, it's a fine game, I just never got around to planting my ass down firmly and actually get through the game. Maybe one day though. Anyways the music is pretty good.

Pac-Man World

Pac-Man World

Imagine being a Namco fan in 1999 and finding out that Pac-Man went 3D for realsies, that must've been a pretty wacky day. Anyways this game is pretty dope and honestly I think it's overall better than it's sequel. It's got more imaginative worlds and does a bit more with it's gameplay than World 2. If you wanna hear my thoughts on World 2 then you're gonna have to wait until I make a page for my GameCube games, so just give me like a week to have the motivation to add that lol. Anyways Pac-Man World 2 is pretty fun.

Pipe Dreams 3D

Pipe Dreams 3D

Now you might be thinking "What the hell is a Pipe Dreams 3D" and let me tell you that was exactly what was going through my mind when I bought it. I saw it on a retro game store for like $7 and having never heard of it before in my life, a brand new gaming experience I have never heard of at an affordable price. So I picked it up and the game turned out to be really fun. The pipe placing is solid with some puzzles being really creative and really chaotic, it's genuinely really fun and I would recommend. Sadly though, I never beat the game. I got to the second to last level just to get stuck in it's second area where the ground is constantly lowering from left to right on a cycle, destroying any pipes on there and frankly it's too brutal. Other than that one difficulty spike that bites at my very character every day it's a dope ass game that more people should be aware of.

Sheep

Sheep

The first weird obscure game to be added to my collection, Sheep caught my attention as I had heard of it briefly in a Nitro Rad episode and kept my interest because of the wackass story presented in the manual. The game itself is alright, the herding is done pretty well but then I get to that one level in the second world where you have to bring your sheep through a thin hallway littered with springs that'll launch your sheep to their doom and because the sheep are not smart enough to maneuver to springs with any delicacy you'll see three quarters of your herd die and end the level with too few sheeps to win. I'm sure there's a way to do it if I were to come back to it but currently I have yet to beat this game because of that. I'm only now realizing how few PlayStation games I've actually beat.

Worms World Party

Worms World Party

I got this game because there was a deal at this one retro game store where you can buy 3 games at a specific rack for the price of 2, and in that purchase I got Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness, a demo disc, and Worms World Party. I never had any intention of actually beating the campaign, I tried doing that before on in Armageddom port on Steam and that went poorly. I kinda just got this because it was cool and for the small chance that maybe I could play it with a friend. Never did play much of it, though the title screen was jarringly cheery like they make it sound like the worms are having a grand old time but then you hop into gameplay and they start gutting each other. Thought that was kinda funny but other than that yeah I haven't played much of this.

PlayStation Underground Jampack Summer '99

PlayStation Underground Jampack Summer '99

Awwww yeah it's a demo disc. Some of you youngsters may ask what exactly is a demo disc? Well it's basically that, a bunch of demos of games and upcoming games all packed into one disc. While some companies may just leave it at that, Sony went the extra mile to cram it with bonus videos, save data downloads, tips and tricks, and even a Japanese exclusive game demo that I was not able to get far in at all. It even boasts style and personality on top of all of that. It's such a cool thing to have and incredibly inexpensive when I bought it, I highly recommend purchasing a demo disc, at least a PlayStation one, they're wonderful.
